4 Reasons why Vans is so Popular

Vans has been around for quite some time now. The California-based company was founded in 1966, opening their first factory and store at 704 East Broadway in Anaheim. Till today, Vans is recognized as one of the best brands when it comes to skate shoes. Their shoes have become legends in their own right and numerous collaborations with the likes of WTAPS and Blends have been done in the past that’s sealed their place in the Hall of Fame for Sneakers.

But there was a time when Vans languished in sneaker sales during the era where consumers favoured the chunky, tech-forward silhouette of skate shoes. After some time of experimenting and testing, Vans realised something, that their heritage was an advantage and going back to what they were good at was the best thing they have ever done. Back in 2017, Vans was a $2.3 billion power house, a huge achievement when you consider their humble beginnings. Below we will take a look at why Vans is popular and why you need to get yourself a pair.

No. 1: They are Classics

You know there’s a reason why people say classics never go out of style. Vans is one of those brands that perfectly captures this meaning. Retro style is still popular and as a brand that’s rooted in 1960s skate culture, it’s easy to see why.

Simple, clean cut looks are reflected on some of their popular core models such as the Old Skool, Sk8-Hi, Authentic and Era. A personal favourite of mine is the Slip-On, a no-nonsense, wear and go with no laces to fuss around with that takes one heck of a beating! It may not be suitable for ‘Off the Wall’ activities but it fits perfectly like your favourite sandal except for the fact that it’s covered. Their sneakers are also available in kids sizing so they won’t feel left out.

No. 2: Easy to Style

Even if you don’t skate, Vans makes sneakers that appeals to anyone of all ages whether it’s school, play or work. Need a pair of school shoes? An all-black or all-white Slip-On will do. Need a pair of sneakers for that wedding that’s coming up with that black suit and white shirt of yours? The favourite Old Skool is an option for you. Whether it’s a high top u are after or a low top, there are plenty of options for to u choose from. Whatever occasion you are going for, rest assured you will be able to find a pair of Vans that suits your style.

Black and white can be boring to some but fret not, the multitude of colours available when picking a pair of Vans be astounding and overwhelming at times! Nearly all colours of the rainbow are available on their 5 core models so there’s something for everyone. Patterns and designs such as the checkerboard, patchwork and denim are very eye-catching as well. Their recent collection with MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) featuring prominent artwork has been greeted warmly by enthusiasts and just shows there’s no end when it comes to creativity. So whether you opt for a minimalist look or a playful style that expresses your personality, Vans has got you covered.

Last but not least, Vans are made to last. Skaters around the world can attest to this and there’s a reason why Vans is still one of the top choices when it comes to skateboarding. Made with uppers of canvas or leather and their signature waffle sole makes the sneakers not only durable but comfortable as well with the padding on the ankles that can found on models like the Sk8-Hi. To top it off, some of their models come with the latest tech (Ultracush, Duracap and Sick Stick to name a few) just to make some of your physical activities a much more pleasurable experience. Don’t be surprised, some pairs might even outlive you.
