Fela Kuti x Carhartt WIP

Coming Soon: For Spring/Summer 2019, Carhartt WIP pays tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti.

Known for pioneering the musical genre Afrobeat, as well as being a perennial political agitator and human rights activist through his highly-charged lyrics and cover art, Fela Kuti was one of the most powerful cultural figures in Africa during the 70s and 80s. The Spring/Summer 2019 Fela Kuti capsule collection has been created in close liaison with the Fela Anikulapo Kuti Estate, his former manager Rikki Stein and Knitting Factory Records.

Its designs take inspiration from Fela Kuti’s vibrant album artwork, such as his 1975 release Expensive Shit, while also incorporating references to tracks like “Ye Ye De Smell” and the recording Live In Detroit 1986. These motifs are applied across a range of pieces, from graphic t-shirts and bucket hats, to shirts and caps.





The Spring/Summer 2019 Fela Kuti capsule collection will be available May 3rd at CROSSOVER Sunway and Online.
